Affiliate internet marketing is a method by which a promoter/affiliate can earn commission by advertising a retailer’s product/service through the internet. The following players are involved: the retailer; the promoter/ affiliate; and the visitor/customer. All transactions take place on-line and allows any product/service to be sold anywhere in the world. An affiliate markets a product/service and receives a commission on any sales he/she generates.

The ultimate result of an affiliate internet marketing effort is that traffic is driven by the publisher or affiliate to the retailer’s website where a buying transaction takes place. In order to promote this event, the affiliate has at their disposal the whole gamut of internet marketing tools.

The tools available could be SEO, or search engine optimization, article marketing, paid advertisement, search engine marketing, email marketing and display marketing, among others. The affiliate then has the choice to use these tools to drive traffic to their own site, where they can display links to the retailer’s product/service and website, and other products, or to use the product/service itself, branded or tagged with their affiliate tracking codes, to drive traffic to the retailer’s website and to encourage the buying transaction. While most of these forms of marketing are quite cheap in today’s market, some, such as display marketing can be quite expensive as affiliate internet marketing practitioners must absorb the cost for each click on their posted advertisement.

Affiliate marketing is very commonplace on the internet today. Very often affiliate marketers are running campaigns for several products at any one time. Affiliate internet marketing is the buzzword of this generation of internet marketers. The internet is teeming with products as everyone going on-line wants a piece of the pie. There is a bit of a marketing revolution going on as more and more people are looking towards the internet to earn money. With a huge amount of commerce being done on-line today from all over the world, every transaction can be tracked. What seems like cents for each individual transaction the power of the internet can quickly multiply those small commissions into large cheques.

If you are thinking that on-line affiliate marketing is for you, you need to think about what products you want to market and their niches. You need to focus in on a niche that interests you and align yourself to a product/service in that niche that you are happy to be branded by (i.e. Put your name to). If you have decided to operate in a particular niche with a particular product/service then it is impossible to erase your steps at a later date.
